The government RHi (Renewable Heat Initiative) scheme is designed to subsidise low carbon heating / hot water systems to encourage their uptake. RHi is typically paid quarterly for 7 years and is available on Solar Thermal, pellet boilers, heat pumps and other similar low carbon technology. The amount received is calculated based on the house’s heating demand. When building new, its common sense to install this technology – solar thermal for example can easily provide upto 7 months of hot water for a home at zero cost. Why run a boiler when you don’t need to?
